A determined angler pulled a 23-pound fish out of a lake after waiting patiently for 24 hours in the rain.

Malcolm Tuckwell reeled in the mirror carp at Chad Lakes fishery near Chipping Norton which runs a catch and release fishing scheme.

The fish, a variety of the common carp, are named because of their scales’ resemblance to mirrors.

They can grow in excess of 60lb (27 kg) – the last few British record fish have all been mirror carp.

Mr Tuckwell shared a picture of his catch and commented: “Did a 24 hour stint last night in the horrible conditions and was rewarded with this little chunk at 23 lb 12 oz.”

A spokesperson for the fishery said: “It’s a nice size fish not the biggest in our lake by any means.”
