Who could Anita be playing? (Picture: BBC)EastEnders legend Anita Dobson is the latest star to join the cast of Doctor Who, and fans are already trying to guess who her character could be.
In a new announcement released by the BBC, the broadcaster revealed that the 73-year-old actor would be starring on the beloved sci-fi series, with It’s A Sin and After Life star Michelle Greenidge, 52, also joining the ranks of the programme.
Anita is best-known for starring as Angie Watts on EastEnders, a role she played from 1985 to 1988.
While little is known about who she could be playing in Doctor Who, some fans have started sharing theories, with guesses predicting that she could be playing the role of Ruby Sunday’s grandmother, with Ruby (Millie Gibson) being the Doctor’s new companion.
The new series of the show will kick off in November this year with three special episodes, which will coincide with the 60th anniversary.
It will see David Tennant return to the fold, playing the Fourteenth Doctor, before the Fifteenth iteration of the Time Lord makes his debut in the form of Sex Education’s Ncuti Gatwa.

It’s A Sin actor Michelle has also joined the cast (Picture: BBC Studios/Bad Wolf)Ncuti’s arrival will come over the festive period this year, with new companion Millie in tow.
Anita and Michelle are the latest new cast members to be announced, after it was revealed that 1899 and Peaky Blinders actor Aneurin Barnard was joining their ranks in an undisclosed role.
Heartstopper’s Yasmin Finney will be playing a character interestingly called Rose Tyler – the same name of Billie Piper’s former companion, who first arrived alongside Christopher Eccleston’s Ninth Doctor.
Meanwhile, Catherine Tate will be coming back as Donna Noble, when David makes his long-awaited return to the Tardis.

Returning showrunner Russell T Davies announced the huge news last year, writing on social media: ‘THEY’RE BACK! The Doctor and Donna! But… how?! He wiped her memory! If she remembers, she’ll die!
‘But, but… is it a flashback? A dream sequence? A lie? A fantasy? A parallel universe?! Alt Doctor? The Land of Fiction?! You’ll find out in 2023 as Doctor Who hits its 60th – diamond! – anniversary!’
Doctor Who is set to return later this year on BBC One.
